Meet the Team: Anne Larsen
Hello! I’m Anne, and I’m the new Volunteer Coordinator at the No.1 Befriending Agency. I’ll be working part-time, three days a week, covering the North and East areas of Glasgow.
My journey in the charity sector started when I volunteered for young refugees needing a friend back in 2012. It became evident to me how much socialisation matters to people, and since then I've dedicated my life to creating systemic change for better mental health among our most vulnerable. On my journey I've done research in mental health as part of my psychology degree, studied systemic Necropolitics as a part of my Global Migration and Social Justice master’s degree, and learned how to make a really pretty coffee when I worked as a speciality barista. My favourite part of the job is chatting with people about their day, and so I'm incredibly grateful to now be working at No.1 Befriending.
During my first two weeks here, I've been enveloped in a genuinely warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's evident that there's a strong culture of empathy and support, with individuals readily extending a listening ear wherever it's needed, and genuine care coming into every interaction. I'm truly impressed by the kindness exhibited by both those offering friendship and those receiving it, and I'm eager to deepen my connections with everyone as I grow into to my new role. Consequently, if you happen to encounter me in the office or at an event, please feel free to approach and say hello!
