Join Our Advisory Board

We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our new Advisory Board for an initial six-month period. This board will play a key role in guiding us through a reflection and review process as we develop a refreshed three-year strategy for The No.1 Befriending Agency.

Why Now?

The year 2024 is a pivotal time for us—a chance to pause, reflect, and plan for the future. Over the past seven years, we’ve seen significant changes in our work and the landscape we operate in:

  • Securing sustainable funding has become increasingly challenging.

  • Evidence of a growing loneliness epidemic, with reports of a “lonely deaths” crisis sweeping the UK (The Independent, July 2024), reinforces the urgency of our mission.

We aim to focus on three priority areas:

  1. Building Financial Resilience: Creating a robust and sustainable financial model to support future growth.

  2. Developing the Organisation: Ensuring our volunteers and team find joy and purpose in our shared work.

  3. Maximising Resources: Amplifying our mission through smart marketing and resource utilisation.

What Does the Role Involve?

The Advisory Board will help shape our vision and strategy through guidance and expertise. This voluntary position involves:

  • Advising on and supporting a research and review process.

  • Helping to develop a three-year business plan.

  • Acting as an ambassador for The No.1 Befriending Agency, promoting our mission and values.

  • Introducing new opportunities and connections where possible.

  • Committing approximately 7 hours per month, including a 4-hour meeting and follow-up support.

Most meetings will be held online, allowing flexibility while maximising the impact of your contribution.

Who Can Apply?

This opportunity is open to anyone passionate about tackling loneliness and supporting vulnerable communities. Don’t let Imposter Syndrome hold you back—we encourage you to put yourself forward!

We are aiming to assemble a group of 5–6 individuals from diverse backgrounds to ensure a variety of perspectives. Please note that while we value all applications, we may not be able to offer a position to everyone who applies.

Expenses

We will reimburse travel expenses for those travelling within Greater Glasgow.

How to Apply

If you’re interested, please email audrey@befriend.org.uk with your CV and a cover letter explaining how your experience aligns with our requirements.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for individuals with:

  • A commitment to our mission.

  • Experience or knowledge that can enhance our review and planning process.

  • A willingness to share their perspective and expertise.

Whether you have skills in finance, strategy, marketing, or another relevant area, your input could make a meaningful difference.
