Volunteer

Please note that volunteer opportunities for 2024 are now closed. We will notify you when recruitment reopens. Please revisit this page for details on how to apply to volunteer with us in the future.

Befriender

As a Befriender, you will visit an older person in their home for one hour each week at a mutually convenient time. These visits are centred on providing warm companionship, active listening, and meaningful conversation to help boost their confidence and independence.

In addition to offering companionship, your role may involve supporting them in achieving personal goals, such as building self-confidence, learning new skills, or feeling more connected to their community. Full training will be provided to ensure you feel confident and supported in your role. If you would like more information, please contact us at info@befriend.org.uk.

Telephone Befriender

Similar to the Befriender role, Telephone Befrienders connect with their befriendee for one hour a week, either over the phone or via Zoom/online. The aim of these chats is to help the befriendee feel more confident and connected, offering them valuable social interaction from a distance.

This role provides volunteers with the opportunity to engage in distance befriending while becoming part of the dynamic and friendly team at The No.1 Befriending Agency. By volunteering, you will play a significant role in reducing loneliness and isolation among older people. If you would like more information, please contact us at info@befriend.org.uk.
