A Wee Taster: New Online Members Always Welcome

We know it can be daunting the first time you log into Zoom, especially with people you don’t know yet, but our new member handled it like a pro! We always have a support network to guide you through the login process if needed, and can phone you with additional support at any time.

Our taster session on Monday encouraged as many vulnerable adults as possible to come along and hang out. As always, the banter was hilarious and varied.

Catherine’s quiz caused divided opinion when it asked ‘Is a Jaffa cake legally considered a cake or a biscuit?’. There was even photographic evidence that you can buy a sponge cake, in the image of a Jaffa, in the shops. At the end of the day, it is in fact a cake because no VAT is paid, and as one wise member stated, ‘You don’t go in and ask for a packet of biscuits!’.

We were then transported to Seville by ex-resident, Connie. Here, opinion was less split than on Jaffa cakes as everyone agreed on the amazing architecture, the ingenuity of circumnavigating the rule whereby it’s illegal to pick oranges by just giving the tree a good shake, and the ingenuity of the tradition to provide free tapas in bars - to make the clientele more thirsty …

A special thanks to Han-ah who is an amazing pianist and played us out at the end of the session. Her hands were flying about on the keyboard, just out of sight in the pictures we managed to take over Zoom. It was inspiring to hear about her love of family and the beliefs that move her to play.

We will definitely be running more taster sessions in the future any vulnerable adult in Glasgow can join us at any time. Please contact info@befriend.org.uk.
